Is 3 to 4 minutes long enough?
Yes, 3 or 4 minutes can be a long time with someone you do not 'connect' with. However, it is long enough to know whether you would like to invest a few hours getting to know each other on a further date.
What should I wear?
Smart casual is best, something you feel comfortable and confident in - think what you would wear to go on a mid-week date.

When will I know if I have a match?

Am I the only one who is really nervous for the speed dating event?
No, surely not! We have organized speed dating events since 2003 and have had more than 1,000 events. Our experience is that most of the participants are a bit nervous at the beginning (both males and females), but once the dating has started participants get more at ease and are relaxed throughout the remainder of event. Usually people wonder after 3 dates what they were so nervous about! Because of the pleasant location, the good atmosphere and the knowledge that everyone is there for the same reason the speed dating events are considered as a good night out where you meet lots of new friends.
What happens if there are too few participants?
If not enough people signed in for the speed dating events we will move the event to another date, so more people can sign in. You can also get your money back or rebook to another location or age category, free of charge.
How many "yes" responses can I mark?
You can mark as many of your speed date contacts as "yes" as you like! The more "yeses" you mark on your match-card, the more you increase your chances for a match!
When can I cancel attendance at the event?
If you are unexpectedly prevented from joining the event, you must notify us up to 10 days prior to the event date. You will receive your entire entry fee back. If you cancel less than 10 days before, until up to 3 days prior date, we cannot refund your entry fee, however you will receive an entry ticket so you (or a friend) can join another event. If you cancel the event within 3 days before the speed dating event takes place, you will not get the option to receive a refund or ability to join another event. No exceptions!
What is the 'waiting list'?
Expat Speed Dating makes sure that the balance between men and women is the equal. If we are not sure we have a free spot for you (for example due to fewer men who have signed up), you can sign up for the waiting list. Once confirmed that we have a free spot we will let you know!
Me and my friend are both at the waiting list and we only want to participate together.
No problem! Please send us an email after you have signed in that you want to join together. We will make sure that you will only participate together, if this is not possible your entry fee be transferred back to you.
Should I pay the entry fee if I'm on the waiting list?
You are not required to pay the fee if on the waiting list, however we advise you to do so. Please keep in mind that we often have a last-minute place available. The participants on the waiting list who have prepaid will receive priority. This is because many people who have not paid in advance do not show up. In consideration for the other participants we try to get the male/female amount balanced. Therefore if you are on the waiting list and have paid the entrance fee and we are not able to accommodate you, you will receive all your money back.
